Civic lx with 6MT. Love it so far. Will miss my GTI , won’t miss how expensive it was becoming.Glad to have a clutch again, though DSG was fun.

Then it makes more noise.

Yup . Wife had it for years in her cr-v or pilot, but my lawnmower was lacking

Well, in my Honda I get a mild hint of acceleration. Like those free samples, juuuust enough to let you get the general idea.

Very nice congratulations on the new car.
So you’ll be sitting in the car later on with a coffee and the manual figuring all the settings and buttons. Did the dealership do an in car tutorial before you left?

Fascinating that you went from a GTI to this - I’m not a big fan of FWD but the one GTI I drove was a *really* nice car and kinda quick too. The new civic, I imagine, drives a lot like the 2011 and 2014 models my parents have? So surprisingly nice steering, decent enough interior, and faster than you’d expect? The turbo aspect is cool, and I bet it’s a ton of fun - but what made you go with this over something a little more enthusiast-y and CPO?

That’s better than my mum’s Civic to be fair. In that thing you get exactly fuck all acceleration no matter what you do.

A bit, but yeah, already stuck in traffic once and found the stereo equalizer, thank God.

Can’t comment on the steering and the power, but I think this generation is quite a step up in interior quality and comfort compared to the generation you mentioned. Seeing a lot of these around, and although they looked awkward at first I think they can be quite striking in person and the cabins look really nice.

It’s all new, and has been getting good reviews about going back to civics roots. I drove it and a Mazda 3 back to back, and it was 9 tenths of the handler the Mazda was. I don’t autocross much(ever) add I used to, and ten miles per gallon more was enriching. The wife made me promise that, when we have the time when the kids are older, we’ll get a dedicated track day/autocross car.

First time I saw the new Civic, I was like hey look a new Accord, wait no that says Civic, huh?

Power is down on the non turbo, but it’s a Honda and is happy being revved out. Steering is excellent. Drove it back to back with a Mazda 3 and it was about 9 tenths as good. You wouldn’t notice unless you went from one to the other

It looks longer than it is.

They do have really nice interiors. Sat in a coupe at a Honda dealership.

I was surprised in that regard. The infotainment on the lx trim does suck, though.

Congrats! I like the new Civic. I test drove an automatic turbo and liked it quite a bit, though the lag off the line bugged me. It had me wondering if I’d enjoy the NA model more, despite the power deficit. I really think this might be my next car, though in Si trim.

Thanks! Road and track has a review that makes a good case for the slower NA engine, in that it actually pulls harder (max torque@4500, max hp@5200) and sounds better at higher rpm. Having had it for a few weeks, I agree. It’s not a fast car, but one you enjoy driving as fast as it does go, and lets you enjoy running the car up to redline without getting into too much trouble. Typically, lower power fuel efficient engines just make more crappy noise as they get close to redline.

I can totally see that. Hondas are so fun to ring out. Losing power early due to the turbo on there seems so counter to what they’ve been good at for so long. I’m really going to want to spend some time comparing the NA vs turbo.
